Exploring the Breathtaking Flume Gorge in NH: A Scenic Adventure

Tucked away in the heart of New Hampshire's White Mountains lies a hidden gem that is not to be missed - Flume Gorge. As we embarked on our scenic drive, it was clear that we were in for a treat. The dense mountain sides, covered in big, leafy trees, made us realize just how early we were getting there to witness the color change that many flock to this area to see. Despite being ahead of schedule, we knew we had to return later in the fall to experience the full glory of the changing leaves and bright fall colors.

The winding roads kept us moving at a leisurely pace, allowing us to easily pull over whenever needed and absorb the stunning beauty of the blooming meadows leading up to the mountain sides. The 35-40mph speed limits in these areas were a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of city life.

As we explored the picturesque villages and small farmsteads, reminiscent of the cover of a Mother Earth News magazine, we couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to experience this unspoiled landscape. With our cooler full of food, drinks, and camera gear in tow, we set off on an adventure through some of the most scenic backcountry roads I've had the pleasure of driving.

It was during a visit with friends Scott and Karen in Maine that we first heard about Flume Gorge. They spoke enthusiastically of their past trips to the area with their kids when they were younger and living at home. As coastal residents, they suggested we venture inland and explore the White Mountains, an idea we couldn't wait to put into action.
